‘Wall of Sound’ founder, DJ, radio presenter and Back To The Phuture creator Mark Jones has announced the first in a series of live events, in partnership with Dennis Publishing.  The first two will take place at Academy 1 - Manchester and Troxy – London with live performances by Gary Numan and Recoil in Manchester, and John Foxx at the London show.

Motor will also play at both dates, as will Richard H Kirk (Cabaret Voltaire/Warp), and Mark Jones will be spinning seminal machine music from the past, present and future – his sets paying special attention to new talent like Hurts, Villa Nah, La Roux, Little Boots, Penguin Prison and Ellie Golding.

Back To The Phuture started out as a radio show on BBC 6 Music in 2009.  The acclaimed program links the synth pioneers with today’s electro artists in celebration of 30 years of daring electronics.

The show has enjoyed massive success, uniting the likes of Gary Numan and Little Boots for a session and orchestrating a performance by Heaven 17 and La Roux at the BBC’s famous Maida Vale studios. It was a definitive pop event that drew huge audiences and broke the record for the most watched music event ever on BBC Digital with 1.3 million hitting the red button.

Jones has delivered entertaining and educational radio shows with guests including Arthur Baker, Phil Oakey (The Human League), Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Gary Numan, Martyn Ware (Heaven 17), Andy McLuskey & Paul Humphries (OMD), Steve Strange (Visage) and August Darnell (Kid Creole & the Coconuts).

These presentations will take place in Berlin at Postbahnhof on Friday 26th November and in Dresden at Zeitenstroemung on Saturday 27th November.

We are very excited to bring you news of an exclusive one show-only guest DJ appearance at Recoil’s event at Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, CA on 24th October. A certain Mr Martin L. Gore will be appearing to DJ at an aftershow DM/Recoil party.

Martin has graciously agreed to appear just for this event to spin a collection of his favourite tracks. Many will be aware that Martin likes to DJ occasionally and reveal his enthusiasm for electronica.

DJ Daniel Barassi will be hosting the party as well as DJ-ing himself and there will be a meet & greet session too – so please join us for this special celebration and don’t forget to bring your treasured items to be signed!

This event will be a ‘late’ show in a really eclectic venue, normally seated (with dinner!). It is quite intimate with in-house projection screens and often reserved for top jazz acts. However, for Recoil’s event, a special late performance has been arranged where the seating will be removed and more space opened up so that we can turn the volume up and let our hair down. Doors are at 10pm and Architect & Conjure One will join us for this unique evening.

Says Alan:  “We started the ‘Selected’ tour proper in Berlin back in March at Hansa studios. That was such a pleasure and we met so many appreciative fans that evening. Unfortunately for some, the show sold out very fast and many people missed out which is why I decided to come back and play these extra dates. I can also tell you that there will be some changes to the presentation compared to what we did on the first leg. I am working right now on musical additions, and we have set the film-makers to work again too.”

The exact line ups are still be finalised but we plan to announce one other special guest artist to join Recoil & Architect for the evenings. In Berlin, we also have an extra act – Northern Kind.

We hear that both are great venues and we hope to make it a real party atmosphere going on as late as curfews allow, with additional DJs and so on. Alan will also be available for a meet & greet signing session after the performances. To avoid disappointment, we advise people to buy tickets early for these shows!

After many requests from Canada, we also have news of an event in Montreal at Club Soda on 28th October. We will bring you the ticket link for this show as soon as it goes on sale.

Finally, there has been a venue change in Chile – because of high demand, a larger capacity venue has been found. This Recoil event will now take place at Blondie, Santiago on November 3rd.

Special guests will be announced soon for all the upcoming South American shows.

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – Chicago

Following Recoil’s recent US leg tour announcement, we are excited to add another special date – this time at The Metro in Chicago on 26th October.  ‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented at a unique event – a double bill featuring both Recoil and Gary Numan! Gary and his band will be performing his classic ‘The Pleasure Principle’ album in full. Architect are also on the bill for this show.

With layers of analogue synthesizers and futuristic, dystopian lyrics, The Pleasure Principle’s 10 songs are given one-word titles; not least the massive hit single ‘Cars’, arguably the first British electro song to dent the US charts. ‘The Pleasure Principle’ is Gary Numan’s most commercially successful album and is a striking turnaround from the guitar-powered, Joy Division-like post punk of his original band Tubeway Army. Recoil recently played a show in Mexico City and if the response there is anything to go by, this upcoming leg of the tour is going to be a something special. Says Alan “The Mexicans didn’t disappoint, and I’ve been receiving innumerable requests from Argentinians, Chileans, Peruvians, Brazilians and many others in that part of the world for years now, pleading for a visit. I’m really flattered to be asked of course, and looking forward to it finally happening – I know we will have an incredible time in South America. Paul Kendall and I are planning a few changes to the live set with some new films as well.”

In North America and Canada, Recoil with be joined by Daniel Myer’s Architect as well as Conjure One for some dates – more details on guests to follow. We are also working on a special double bill in Chicago which should be announced very soon.

To make this evening unique, Alan has invited Nicole Blackman, Joe Richardson and Douglas McCarthy to join him on stage for this end-of-tour extravaganza. And you never know, maybe more guests might turn up too!

Joe Richardson will also be performing a short set of his own and one other act is still to be announced. (Note: Unfortunately Joe is unable to appear at the Mexico City event as previously announced)

Other than the Austin event, Recoil won’t be presenting in any further cities in the US at this time, but do not fear – there is a strong possibility that Alan and Paul Kendal will be back later in the year to perform some South American dates and, hopefully, one or two more North American shows.

The European leg of ‘Selected Events’ has been highly successful with many sold out events, eclectic guest acts, meet & greet sessions with fans and so on. Update about Russia

Following our reports from the road about travel ordeals and flight cancellations, some Russian fans have been concerned that Recoil might not make it to Russia – please don’t worry! Everything will be going ahead as planned.

It looked bleak for a while, but thankfully it appears Russia has been unaffected by the ‘volcanic cloud of doom’ and is operating as normal.

We will see you there next week!

Alan would like to thank good friend and driving accomplice Paul Cronin for the last-minute Euro tour adventure. The journey had the knock on effect of enabling Recoil’s tour to continue with further long drives to Prague and Lodz. The sold out shows in all three cities were well worth the efforts enjoying the most enthusiastic reactions received so far. We all really appreciate the warm welcome and gifts from the fans, ranging from chocolate cakes, palinka, vodka, art books, USB keys, fine wines, T shirts and a very small sheep.

Assuming we all make it and following his appearance with Recoil in Lodz, Daniel Myer’s Architect will guest for the event at Storan in Gothenburg on April 28th. By all accounts Storan is a unique old theatre and well worthy of this kind of evening. There are still a few tickets left so try to catch Recoil and Architect for this special show.

Again, if travel permits, the tour will continue into Russia (via car, boat and train) where Yotatoy are lined up to appear in Moscow @ Discoteque Club on 30th April, and in St. Petersburg @ Club Jagger on 2nd May. If there are no flights, the logisitcs of the journey are quite complicated but we very much hope these dates will go ahead. The most tenuous event at the moment, due to its location, is the show in Ekaterinburg. This is not drivable but we have our fingers crossed that flights will be available by then. The guests for that event will be Technologiya.
