Recoil to present ‘A Strange Hour’ at BTTP

‘Wall of Sound’ founder, DJ, radio presenter and Back To The Phuture creator Mark Jones has announced the first in a series of live events, in partnership with Dennis Publishing.  The first two will take place at Academy 1 - Manchester and TroxyLondon with live performances by Gary Numan and Recoil in Manchester, and John Foxx at the London show.

Motor will also play at both dates, as will Richard H Kirk (Cabaret Voltaire/Warp), and Mark Jones will be spinning seminal machine music from the past, present and future – his sets paying special attention to new talent like Hurts, Villa Nah, La Roux, Little Boots, Penguin Prison and Ellie Golding.

Back To The Phuture started out as a radio show on BBC 6 Music in 2009.  The acclaimed program links the synth pioneers with today’s electro artists in celebration of 30 years of daring electronics.

The show has enjoyed massive success, uniting the likes of Gary Numan and Little Boots for a session and orchestrating a performance by Heaven 17 and La Roux at the BBC’s famous Maida Vale studios. It was a definitive pop event that drew huge audiences and broke the record for the most watched music event ever on BBC Digital with 1.3 million hitting the red button.

Jones has delivered entertaining and educational radio shows with guests including Arthur Baker, Phil Oakey (The Human League), Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Gary Numan, Martyn Ware (Heaven 17), Andy McLuskey & Paul Humphries (OMD), Steve Strange (Visage) and August Darnell (Kid Creole & the Coconuts).

Franco-American duo Motor makes uncompromising, sleek yet spiky EBM-influenced techno and their forthcoming album features none other than Mr Martin Gore & Mr Numan, further highlighting the cross-generational exchange of ideas as expressed through BTTP.

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – San Diego date now added

Due to west coast demand, ‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented in San Diego at Anthology on Saturday 23rd October – details below.

This event will be a ‘late’ show in a really eclectic venue, normally seated (with dinner!). It is quite intimate with in-house projection screens and often reserved for top jazz acts. However, for Recoil’s event, a special late performance has been arranged where the seating will be removed and more space opened up so that we can turn the volume up and let our hair down. Doors are at 10pm and Architect & Conjure One will join us for this unique evening.

Venue : Anthology

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – NEW EURO DATES!

Good news! We have received so many requests that Alan has agreed to play a few more European shows to end the year with a bang. ‘A Strange Hour’ is coming back to Germany for two very special events. These presentations will take place in Berlin at Postbahnhof on Friday 26th November and in Dresden at Zeitenstroemung on Saturday 27th November – details below.

Says Alan:  “We started the ‘Selected’ tour proper in Berlin back in March at Hansa studios. That was such a pleasure and we met so many appreciative fans that evening. Unfortunately for some, the show sold out very fast and many people missed out which is why I decided to come back and play these extra dates. I can also tell you that there will be some changes to the presentation compared to what we did on the first leg. I am working right now on musical additions, and we have set the film-makers to work again too.”

The exact line ups are still be finalised but we plan to announce one other special guest artist to join Recoil & Architect for the evenings. In Berlin, we also have an extra act – Northern Kind.

We hear that both are great venues and we hope to make it a real party atmosphere going on as late as curfews allow, with additional DJs and so on. Alan will also be available for a meet & greet signing session after the performances. To avoid disappointment, we advise people to buy tickets early for these shows!

‘Selected Events’ 2010 – Dallas and Hamilton shows added!

More dates have been added into Recoil’s US tour. We couldn’t leave Texas out so ‘A Strange Hour’ will be presented in Dallas at Trees on Saturday 16th October. We hear that the ‘Trees’ venue is legendary and, following the great event in Austin last spring, Alan is very happy to be coming back to the Lone Star State. In fact, this will be the opening US event on the tour so come along and be the first to witness the new additions to Recoil’s presentation.

Architect will also be appearing and there will almost certainly be a special Recoil/DM party afterwards (Alan will attend) which your show ticket will allow you access to. So bring along your CDs and vinyl if you want to get those signed – more details on that very soon.

Due to ticket demands in Canada, Recoil will also be appearing in Hamilton, Ontario at This Ain’t Hollywood on 29th Oct. Architect & Conjure One will also be on the bill for this one. This venue is a bit more compact than the others and has an unusual set up. Alan & Paul plan an adapted presentation using multiple plasma screens.

Recoil iPhone App updated

It has taken a while but at last Apple approved the version (2.01) update to Recoil’s app and this update is now live. A new ‘Event’ section has been added plus quite a few other additions. All performance and stability aspects are now much improved too.

If you haven’t already downloaded it, this new Recoil app (which also works with iPad & iPod touch) provides the most portable way to keep in touch with all the very latest news, including up-to-the-minute updates on the new tour schedule. As well as creating a hub for Recoil’s social networking, there is also access to photos, videos, audio, twitter, forum and blog feeds, as well as Alan’s concepts behind each of his albums.

Designed by un.titled, the app is free and available now from the iTunes store.
